The Belle Plaine Planning and Zoning Commission meets in the City Building on the first Monday of every month at 7:00PM. The commission is comprised of seven members, five from within the city limits and 2 outside the city limits. The purpose of the Planning and Zoning Commission is to research and recommend a Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Regulations, and Sub-division Regulations to the Governing Body for approval. Other duties of the Planning and Zoning Commission include planning and approving plans for neighborhoods and special projects, concurrently serve as the Board of Zoning Appeals to hear and decide appeals from determinations of the Zoning Administrator, and hold hearings, provide plans for and/or make recommendations on matters such as annexations as may be periodically assigned to the Commission by the Governing Body.
