Description & Details

The Deputy City Clerk is a non-exempt position under FLSA. This employee is responsible for assisting in the performance of general accounting functions. The employee in this position accumulates claims, prepares warrants and checks, payroll and payroll records and maintains the general ledger and accounts payable. The deputy city clerk will be cross-trained and will assume the duties of the City Clerk in his or her absence.

Essential Functions

·         Maintains all utility billing;

·         Serves as the first response to all incoming phone calls and customers entering the building;

·         Enters accounts payable information, all receipts, and utility entries into the computer;

·         Closes out computer monthly utility reports;

·         Waits on customers and assists citizens with concerns and complaints;

·         Serves as the Freedom of Information officer;

·         Inputs payroll under the direction of the City Clerk and pays withholding taxes and all quarterly reports;

·         Completes daily cash drawer report and deposits;

·         Serves as the Court Clerk in the absence of the City Clerk;

·         Performs other duties as required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·         Two to four years of similar or related experience is required. Employee is expected to have acquired necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well at the time of employment.

·         Technical abilities expected include knowledge of computer applications, newsletter development; and ability to operate a calculator and other office equipment for extended periods of time.

·         The ideal candidate will have the ability to effectively and professionally handle complaints and inquiries from both the general public and city personnel;
